Stingrays Swim Team Parent Association Meeting
Septebmer 18, 2002

President, Donna Shattuck, called the meeting to order at 5:45 PM. They’re many families in attendance. All new families were welcomed.

Coach Gary passed out information sheets on the Friends of Pierce Pool, Swim-A-Thon, on Sunday October 6, 2002. Each swimmer is asked to participate in the event. President Shattuck offered a $25 Sport Chalet gift certificate as a prize for the swimmer that makes the best poster to advertise the event. The swimmers would vote as a team. Gary also passed out a meet form for an all girls’ swim meet being held at Loyola Marymount.

Bonnie Germain gave the Parent Association Financial Report. The current balance of the Parent Association fund is $1574 to date. Past dues for 2002 and new swimmer family dues are being collected. Expenses for the month included: $215 for swim caps and $211 for Jr. Olympic Team shirts. The only anticipated expenses for the next few months are $125.00 for the permit fee required for next Sunday’s picnic and the awards banquet. President Shattuck asked to move the picnic to Leo Carrillo Beach to avoid the additional cost of liability insurance required by the City and County of Los Angeles.

A billing for 2003 annual dues went out in September and are payable. All families have been asked to report their payment of 2002 dues on the honor system.

The minutes of the August 21, 2002 were read and approved.

The Potluck Beach Party has been set for Sunday, September 29th at 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Location and cost of permit and insurance was discussed. The group decided to move the picnic to Leo Carrillo State Beach Park to avoid the additional cost of insurance. It was also discussed to ask for a $5 per family to help defray the cost of the permit. All families have been asked to sign–up to bring something to share. Sign up sheet posted in the equipment room.

This weekend is the Santa Fe meet. All families were encouraged to attend even if their swimmer had not signed up. Rides for swimmer needing them were offered. New swimmers are to be buddied up with an experienced swimmer. Parents were asked to sign up for a time slot on the Timing Chair Sign-up sheet. The importance of timing and how it affects our swimmer was explained. It was also expressed that any parent who does not know how, that they could be trained.

Due to the busy holiday season it was suggested and voted to postpone the award banquet until after the holidays. Families felt that this would allow for the group to collect more funds prior to the event and reduce the pressure and give as more cost effective options. The selection of the new date was tabled until the next meeting.

The idea of a team family camp out will be deferred until spring.

Bonnie has sweatshirt for sale for $25 and will bring them to the swim meet this weekend.

The next meeting of the Stingray’s Parent Association will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2002 at 5:30 PM at Pierce Pool. With no other business the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna Shattuck
